Agriculture
in the classroom (AITC) is a national program with
activities in every state and territory across the country.
The purpose of AITC is to inform students and teachers about
how agriculture is a part of their daily lives. By
incorporating more information about the food and fiber
system into daily classroom lessons, students will better
understand the role of agriculture.
Illinois
AITC program is run by the Illinois Farm Bureau. However,
the Illinois AITC Program's success is contributed in part
to the efforts of the individual county programs.
The
Cook County program was initiated in 1987 and serves
primary, secondary, and undergraduate students. The mission
of the Cook County AITC program is to expand students'
awareness and appreciation for the importance of agriculture
everywhere.
Cook
County AITC offers you, the educator, an opportunity to help
youth understand the importance of agriculture in their
everyday lives. While we are all dependent on agriculture
for our food and fiber, few of us understand how food and
fiber are produced. Please, take a look at all the resources
that are available to you to help show your students that
agriculture is everyday!
